Synopsis

Ken Loach mercilessly tackles themes of British traditionalism and parental control in the award-winning FAMILY LIFE.

When 19 year-old Janice falls pregnant, her horrified parents force her to have an abortion, which throws the traumatised Janice into a tailspin of self-hatred and anxiety. Her parents, unsure of how to help her themselves, send Janice to an institution, where she is subjected to all the archaic methods of early psychotherapy, including prescription drugs and electro-convulsive therapy.

Shocking, honest and intriguing, FAMILY LIFE offers Loach's view of class exploitation and the hidden torments of parochial, middle-class Britain.
