To celebrate the DVD debut of the late Russ Meyer's iconic, buxotic and violent masterpiece 'Faster Pussycat Kill! Kill!' on Madman's Directors Suite label, launches will be held in Sydney and Melbourne in early/mid December.

Melbourne sees Burlesque revue Man's Ruin at Cherry , 103 Flinders Lane, with a full screening of the film and door prizes for lucky winners !

The momentum for Australian feature film LOOK BOTH WAYS continues, with the film being nominated today for Best Non-European Film at the European Film Awards.

LOOK BOTH WAYS is nominated alongside such films as CRASH, THE CONSTANT GARDENER, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, BROKEN FLOWERS and GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK.

The European Film Academy was formed in 1989. The President is Wim Wenders, with board members including Dieter Kosslick (Director, Berlin Film Festival) and actors Sir Ben Kingsley and Brenda Blethyn. The only Australian film to win the award to date was MOULIN ROUGE in 2001.

The nomination arrives hot on the heels of LOOK BOTH WAYS being awarded Best Film, Director, Actor, Editing and Screenplay at the Australian Film Critics Circle Awards.

It has also been nominated for eleven AFI and seven IF Awards, and recently won the Discovery Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Producer Bridget Ikin comments, ?The making of LOOK BOTH WAYS has been a remarkable pleasure, and now to realize that the film is being received so warmly all over the world is wonderful news.?

LOOK BOTH WAYS has grossed over $2.5m at the Australian box office to date, and continues to screen in cinemas nationally.

Nausicaa.net is reporting that Toshio Suzuki has announced that Studio Ghibli's next movie will be directed by Hayao Miyazaki's son, Goro Miyazaki.

Details regarding the movie will be announced by Toho on December 13. Goro Miyazaki has, up until recently served as the director of the Studio Ghibli Museum in Mitaka.

Hayao Miyazaki is reported by Suzuki to be "fiercely against the idea."

Film critics have it 'Both Ways'

Australia's film critics have voted Sarah Watt's Look Both Ways as the Best Australian Film of 2005.

At the Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards in Melbourne on Saturday night, Sarah Watt's wry, romantic drama surprisingly won best film, director and screenplay, ahead of Little Fish and The Proposition.

William McInnes, who plays a newspaper photographer diagnosed with cancer in Look Both Ways, won best actor and Denise Haratzis was voted best editor.

Little Fish claimed the other acting awards ? best actor for Hugo Weaving, best actress for Cate Blanchett and best supporting actress for Noni Hazlehurst.

The Proposition won best score for Nick Cave and Warren Ellis and best cinematography for Benoit Delhomme.

Three Dollars won best adapted screenplay for Robert Connolly and Elliot Perlman.

Critics Circle president Russell Edwards said it had been a bumper year for Australian films. "Directors and scriptwriters have told us an equally wide array of stories that have touched out hearts and captured our imaginations," he said.

Madman Cinema will release "THE THREE BURIALS Of Melquiades Estrada" in cinemas nationally in 2006.

THREE BURIALS marks the directorial debut of Tommy Lee Jones and features a screenplay by Guillermo Arriaga ("Amores Perros", "21 Grams"). Jones also stars, alongside Barry Pepper.

A running contender for the Golden Palm at Cannes this year, THREE BURIALS scooped 2 awards: Tommy Lee Jones for Best Actor and Guillermo Arriaga for Best Screenplay.

THREE BURIALS is expected to be a strong Oscar contender in 2006.

Optimum Releasing will distribute 3 BURIALS in the UK and Sony Classics Pictures will distribute the film in the US, early 2006.

Anime News Network is reporting that at a talk with Mamoru Oshii at the Tokyo International Film Festival, Toshio Suzuki of Studio Ghibli announced that details of their next movie will be revealed on December 13th.

No more details were provided, but it is rumored that the next movie will be based on a novel.

Recently Studio Ghibli has adapated the Dianne Wynn Jones novel Howl's Moving Castle to much acclaim.

What will this new movie be an adaptation of? Prepare to find out on December 13th!

November and December titles, currently scheduled to ship November 23rd and December 7th respectively, remain on-track.

The ninth annual Hollywood Film Festival, which opens Oct. 18 at Grauman's Chinese Theatre, unveiled Monday a lineup of 60 films, drawn from a record 2,200 worldwide submissions. The fest, which runs through Oct. 23 at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood, will close with a screening of Hayao Miyazaki's "My Neighbor Totoro."

The screening of the Studio Ghibli favourite "My Neighbor Totoro" comes as further recognition of Miyazaki's rising esteem in the filmmaking world since receiving the Golden Lion award for lifetime achievement at the recent Venice Film Festival. Audiences in Australia are not short on opportunity to enjoy the films of Studio Ghibli.

First we are being treated to a mini festival of Studio Ghibli films with screenings on SBS TV every Wednesday at 10pm. The remaining films on the schedule are Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind on Oct 12, Kiki's Delivery Service on Oct 19, and closing with the Academy Award winning Spirited Away on Oct 26.

In cinemas now, the latest Miyazaki masterpiece, "Howl's Moving Castle", is wowing audiences, holding #1 on the limited release chart. Howl's is an experience that you won't want to miss on the big screen!

Finally, Madman continues its acclaimed DVD releases of the Studio Ghibli Collection, with "Pom Poko" and "My Neighbours the Yamadas" available on the 19th of October.

Of course we haven't forgotten about "My Neighbour Totoro", the most requested of the Studio Ghibli back catalogue, which will be released for the first time in Australia and with both English and Japanese dialogue, in Autumn 2006.
